Nights in Bangkok part 1

Bangkok1

After hours in the air, we set down in Bangkok. Time wise we landed some time after midnight, so the photos came the first day morning looking out over the cityscape. Exploring some of the town, we found ourselves in the World Centre (I think) – a bustling multi story shopping centre.

Some more tomorrow.

Highway to Hell

Highway home

Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride
Asking nothing, leave me be
Taking everything in my stride
Don’t need reason, don’t need rhyme
Ain’t nothing I would rather do
Going down, party time
My friends are gonna be there too
I’m on the highway to hell
No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody’s gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody’s gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, payed my dues
Playing in a rocking band
Hey Momma, look at me
I’m on my way to the promised land
I’m on the highway to hell
(Don’t stop me)
And I’m going down, all the way down
I’m on the highway to hell

Onehunga to Newmarket Stroll

O2C9Dropping a car off for work we sold today, I took a 2 hour ‘stroll’ to get my ride home. Aside from some rain, it was great taking ones time through a industrial – suburban – park area I don’t visit so often. Really quite different to my local area.

Harvest Time

Harvest TimeEarly spring I planted some coriander. Always a nice addition to many meals, it started life off a little sad and under-watered due to surprisingly quick drainage in one of my new garden areas. Then, the coriander itself was quick to pass its tasty leaf stage and shoot straight to the flowering. Never mind – its given me either an abundance of seeds to eat, or more likely dry and plant next season!

Into a paper bag the seeds went, to be hung up to dry in the sheltered shed.

Mount Hobson – Remuera

Mt Hobson1Picking my my new old Minolta Hi-matic 7s after work today, I took a quick stroll up Mt Hobson with the GRD IV. Originally called Remuera in Maori, the Mount is an old volcanic cone just of of the city in the suburb of Remuera. Sitting at 143m high, following one of the zig-zag cow tracks up to the summit makes it a fairly easy climb. Over its life its been used as a Maori Pa, a quarry, pasture land and finally a water reservoir. Going by the young cows on there today, still pasture also!

A nice little walk with great views if your in the Remuera/ New Market area!

Small World in My Garden

in my garden 3With light fading fast today, I switched the Ricoh GRD IV to macro to have a close up look around my garden. Using manual focusing macro to 1cm, I looked around for some test subjects. The little flying creature in the main shot above was sitting on some coriander flowers (quite small in themselves).

The ants below, for the given light, didn’t stand still (no surprise), and the small stinkbug like beetle consistently turned its back to me! The last little mite of a creature was barely visable with my close as possible focus – goes to show no matter how close you look, there is always something smaller around the corner.

Last day of my holiday break tomorrow. Not sure what the weathers going to do, but all going well I’ll be off for a stroll.

2014 Approaches

R0019944So we have reached the end of another year. New Years Eve is a time of great celebration. A time of reflection. A time to make new resolutions and commitments. And for others, just another day.

Thanks to all of you who drop in every now and then to look and read mikehawkey.com. The year, in reflection, has just flown by.
