Rural Morning

Rural MorningAnother shot from the Hamilton visit, Rural Morning.

Living in suburbia in ‘the big city’, I find it calmly refreshing out in the more rural districts. Long fields of grass, neighbours close enough if needed, but far enough away not to be looking in your window. I think it also the flat open landscape that you can stare into the distance of. Auckland in general is fairly hilly, so you need to be at a high point to see so far at ground level.

Fiji Sunrise

Fiji SunriseWith cold wind and bouts of heavy rain, it felt like a good day to dig into the photo archives, taking me back to a warmer climate. Shot early one morning during our stay in Fiji, I recall waking up just on sunrise. The resort area was dead quiet, with only a few staff busily walking around getting ready for when holiday stayers woke up for breakfast. One man, silhouetted in the foreground, was busy raking up the piles of weed that wash up daily into tidy little piles waiting for the crew on  the tractor to pick up again later in the day. In the background we see the mountains, if memory serves, of the sleeping giant (I think his belly is just to the left of the closer pine trees). Temperature already warm compared to New Zealand…

back to my cosy winter fire.

Morning View

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Before a busy day in the garden, I managed to get a walk in early morning today. One of the great things about out new home is that its about 5 minutes away from a great coastal bush walk.

I brought out the old Olympus E500 four thirds DSLR. Although getting a little long in the tooth, it has pleasing colours, and still handels well compared to my newer units.

Looking out across the water to the next peninsula I captured the calm, golden morning.

Golden Web – shot on the Sony Nex about a year ago with the Industar 61 Lens. I recall it being a beautiful golden morning (albeit cold).

Sequoioideae – Redwood

RedwoodSequoioideae, better know to many as Redwood, are some of the tallest trees in the world. Able to live well over a thousand years, the few in todays image are just wee babies – age wise (although already very tall),Brought to New Zealand with settlers, much of the country once had Redwood. Now days its not so common, likely used for various parts of the manufacture of houses and other wood products over time.
