Learning the Jumping Flea

UkeThe Ukulele. We always had one in the house when I grew up. I never learnt to play it. I did learn other instruments, but the little Uke never tickled my fancy.

More recently a few people from work expressed the desire to start up a social ukulele group. It sounded like a fun enough work related thing to do, so I jumped online and purchased this little number pictured today.

Ive learnt four chords, but ain’t no singing cowboy yet…The cat dosen’t run away if I feed her first, so thats a start!

Garbage

image

A quick post before the end of the day.

Shot on the Samsung s2, I hope to share some more tomorrow’ish.

Garbage rocked the Civic at Aucklands CBD. A great concert, many many years since they came to NZ.

Down in the Crowd

My beautiful picture

Similar to my image taken a few weeks ago, Down in the Crowd is one of the images shot on Ilford Pan 100 using the Pentax MG SLR. Slightly tweaked in Photoshop CS4, I lightly colorised and resized – all adter developing and scanning.

Waitangi Day here in New Zealand tomorrow. If the weather holds, we might head out for a bike somewhere hopefully!

Bat For Lashes

image

A quick post for today as I return from the Laneway music festival. Bat  For Lashes put on a great show, concluding my day in the sun.

Shot on the galaxy s2 and edited in afterfocus.

Music in the Parks: I Am Giant

Music in the Park

A hot day out in the sun with Auckland’s Music in the Parks – a local government funded series of events bringing a variety of bands to the public.

There were a number of people there with their cameras, shooting the bands straight on, avoiding the audience. In todays shot, I looked for a slightly different perspective. Capturing the lead from I Am Giant over the girls shoulder, I think I have caught the moment of the band and audience, yet kept all in the photo relatively anonymous.

Shot on the Sony Nex with 210mm telephoto lens. Converted to B&W using CS5 .

EXIT 420

Exit 420

As part of a Christmas function I took some part in organising for work we had a local live band, EXIT 420. What they lack in years, they make up for in talent. Playing a broad spectrum of rock, and the odd Christmas number, they had a decent group of the audience up dancing and stepping to the beat. Perhaps I am starting to show my age, but these guys were young – I don’t recall talent to that degree when I was their age (I was playing orchestral type music…)

Shot on the Sony Nex 5N at 3200 ASA and 1/60th of a second (no flash) I am still very pleased with the low light capability of the Sony. Looking at some of the more recent releases in digital cameras, we are simply seeing better and better low light capability- a great bonus for all, but especially hand-held no flash shooters!

In Gimp I darkened the right of the shot, off and behind the stage and added a vignette. I then popped the contrast up a few points and resized.

If you are ever in the Auckland area, check out their facebook page linked above and see if you catch them live somewhere!
