Awesome but dangerous animals if your on their wrong side!
photos and other things…
Auckland’s Sky Screamer – a three person egg shaped cage with a big rubber band on it. Sit down, strap up and get propelled into the sky at something like 200kph (124mph).
Ive been on it a number of times over the years – each time as harrowing as the next if your not overly fond of feeling like your are falling to earth in a mild steel cage. Anyway, today I caught a group of people having a go for themselves.
Today marked Auckland’s Round The Bays fun run – NZ’s biggest participant run. Unfortunately a recent bug left me not feeling up to competing this year (I think my first non-participate in 7 years!). However, I went down to watch the start all the same.
First off, just before the gun is the wheelchair participants. Then at the sound of the gun about 35,000 people take off for the 8.4km waterfront journey.
Below is a series of images shot to show the ‘mob’ of people approaching like the tide coming in. I then wandered down, took some closer shots, and then again went up the hill to look again. The final shot, with people still just crossing the start line was a good 15-20min after the start gun!
Today we were lucky enough to have a team afternoon with work at the Auckland Zoo. My boss, who somehow fits the time in to also work there gave us an afternoon guided tour full of interesting and fun facts. I brought my Sony Nex along with both the kit lens and the 55-210mm zoom. The 210 stayed on for the day after the first 2 or 3 images. I captured a good range of images I will look through and show at some stage, but, for now, here is the tail end of it all…
