2014 is here!
Starting the new year, I went for a walk around my local park trail. The forecast was thunderstorms for the afternoon, so I took in some fresh forest smells before the ground turned to mush.
A calm, still and beautiful morning. Aside from the odd walker I passed in the opposite direction, it was me, the trees and the singing birds. Nice.

A visit to the jeweller in New Market, just out of Auckland’s CBD took me past this traditional looking set of units on the edge of the shopping area, across the road from Auckland’s Domain (a large inner city green area).
Ricoh set to bleach bi-pass, I love the washed image that appeared on the screen. Aside from a minor crop, nothing else done using Gimp.

We had a beautiful clear crisp day today. I was all set to head out from work a little early…then the issues happened. By the time I walked out the door, it was long past dark, and I was too knackered to go shoot.
So todays shot (one of my poorer if I do say so myself), we just get the silhouette of the clear afternoon reflecting on my monitor.

Another shot from the Hamilton visit, Rural Morning.
Living in suburbia in ‘the big city’, I find it calmly refreshing out in the more rural districts. Long fields of grass, neighbours close enough if needed, but far enough away not to be looking in your window. I think it also the flat open landscape that you can stare into the distance of. Auckland in general is fairly hilly, so you need to be at a high point to see so far at ground level.

Work took me down south to Hamilton. Leaving early we headed down the pre-rush hour(s) jam and into the Waikato region. Heading down the Bombay Hill – marking the edge of Auckland, we dove into the depth of fog still blanketing this lower region and continued on our way past Huntly and towards Hamilton. The sun was breaking through fog and clouds in the distance, offering a wonderful early morning view.
