Blossoms in the Rain

Bloss1

With an unusually open afternoon I headed off to Cornwall Park by One Tree Hill in Auckland to take some snaps. Unfortunately the weather was not cooperating and rain went from spitting to a constant bucket from the sky. In some ways the clouds helped by giving me an even (yet dark) shadow of light. I managed to get a number of shots off before retreating to dryer places.

Hot Rods and American Iron

Hotrod1On Sunday whilst visiting a friends market stall we happened upon a car meet up. Not sure if it was a designated spot or not as there were a lot of police there also. Either way, was an impressive range of muscle machines and I grabbed a few shots as I walked through.

Long Drive In

LDI1Life has been busy.

Photography has been sitting on the back burner as jobs need to be done both at home, and intensity at work increases.

Aside from a long day at work, it was a refreshing brake to head down to the Waikato again yesterday. Heading out at 6am, beating the sun to clock in, it was another typical fresh and beautiful sunrise that the Waikato region so often offers.

LDI2Traffic at this time of the morning is typically light. One is not alone on the roads, but still granted enough sightseeing room to enjoy rather than regret the journey.

LDI3 LDI4

I snap away as I coast along. Arm outstretched to windows either side of the car. If only I had time to stop at every picturesque rolling hill and vast green field.

Maybe next time…

I’ll try not to be so long before posting again this time!

The last Ko Lanta Sunset

Final Lanta Sunsat

Our last night in Ko Lanta, we arrived early and got some good viewing seats at the corner of the resort. It was claimed to be one of the best spots to see a sunset in all of Ko Lanta. We had been previous nights, but unfortunately the weather had not been in our favour. Today still had a low set of clouds as the sun edged towards the sea, but the sky colours afterwards were certainly beautiful.

It was our last proper sunset for Thailand actually. in 24 hours time we would already be flying away from our holiday!

I love the colour the sky became as all around fell to night. Isn’t nature just awesome!

Approaching the Match – with different processing

Before the MatchIm lucky enough to live next to a nice sized park and bush walk. The above image being one I have shown at some angle or another int he past. As with all parks, often various social and club games are played. Here its generally Football/Soccer in one season and Cricket in the other. At the moment, cricket.

The Match 2Armed with my Sony Nex and Jupiter 8, I grabbed several shots whilst out for a small walk. After arriving home, I processed the three all a little differently. For the head image in B&W I pushed it quite hard to get some heavy light contrasts. The second image, just above had a minor yellow tone applied to give a slightly dryer look than the rain all night may suggest. For the final image below, I didnt really do anything other than a slight straightening before framing and resizing.

The MatchCatch you tomorrow!

BD – The Action Story of an 8 Year Old (part 2)

We left off yesterday with BD being knocked out and placed in the truck of the Mean Mob. Its just not BD’s day!

I wont keep you in suspense any longer. The conclusion –

_DSC7152 _DSC7153 _DSC7154 _DSC7155 _DSC7156 _DSC7157 _DSC7158 _DSC7159The END!

Afterthoughts (as in decades later!)

1.Clearly as a child my spelling was worse than it is now. On the positive side, I can see that I produced the story all by myself, without any assistance from parents.
2.How typical an ending is that! – for flips sake, I didn’t even draw a final picture! I think a modern day adaptation might just have a little more content to it – you know, like the multiple endings Lord of the Rings had!
3.Did you notice BD had a mobile phone!?! – they weren’t overly mainstream when I wrote this – only big wigs and flashy car sales men had them at the time of writing this. No idea where I would have got the idea that BD would have one.
4.BD’s an unusual name. I suspect it was the initials of of of my friends turned around. Originality.

If nothing else, I hope thats given you a laugh, or wasted enough time before you needed to attend to something.
Back to actual Photos tomorrow!

BD – the Action Story of a 8 Year Old Mind

_DSC7142A bit of a diversion from my usual photos, I was doing a rather brutal clean up of old boxes that have not been touched for many years and came across a short story/film script (?) I must have written when I was approximately 8 years old.

Apologies for those of you who visit for images – today and tomorrow, although ‘technically’ photo’s, have been dedicated to telling this action packed (yet very flawed) story that will likely never otherwise be seen…(not necessarily a bad thing)

So without further ado, I present ‘BD’, a action story by the once young Michael Hawkey

Exciting! time for a break with the heart stopping conclusion tomorrow!
