Hut in the Woods

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMore a hut in the park rather than hut in the woods, but an interesting discovery none the less whilst having a short walk after work. Armed with the Olympus E-500, my battery was almost flat, so I rushed to get some shots off before it died. Shooting at dusk under trees at iso100 I did get some motion blur, but quite liked the final result once converted to B&W.

I am assuming the hut was some form of student project or fun game for kids/family rather than someone actually using it – it would not offer much shelter.

The sunset this evening was one of the more amazing of recent. Unfortunately I was stuck in traffic for the best of it. Racing (or driving as prompt as possible) once out of the  traffic, finding a park and jogging down the track to an open area, I missed all but the last of the sun as it dropped into the horizon. With tide out and still, I did manage to catch it reflecting the last of the days sun as it slowly curved down and away out to sea.

Morning View

Before a busy day in the garden, I managed to get a walk in early morning today. One of the great things about out new home is that its about 5 minutes away from a great coastal bush walk.

I brought out the old Olympus E500 four thirds DSLR. Although getting a little long in the tooth, it has pleasing colours, and still handels well compared to my newer units.

Looking out across the water to the next peninsula I captured the calm, golden morning.

Swift in the West

A quick archive shot for today. Work took me out of the office and down to Hamilton for my 12 hour day. Unfortunately, between doing what I was down there to do, and driving, I didn’t get the opportunity to take any shots. Hamilton has an excellent garden park, and I’m told a great Zoo, so I will need to head down for them again at some stage.

Todays image, shot back in summer when I took a trip to Piha on the West Coast. I recall the clouds still being low in the sky as I looked back to the car park, and up into the ranges.

Feeding the Waitemata

Just a quick mobile post for this evening. Auckland has its first rain in 2013 and my home internet is playing up.

Shot at the uppermost point of Glenfield/Greenhithe, this scenic little river flows down into the Waitemata Harbour.

The 20km Stroll

What started as a ~1 hour walk out and about, turned into a 20km 5 1/2 hour walk today! Quite enjoyable, but it would have been better if I didn’t only have my jandals (thongs/flip-flops) on.

Starting off (entirely on Auckland’s North Shore) in Eskdale Bush, I worked my way to Kaipatiki Bush, and then followed the Glenfield costal trail, before hitting the suburbs, over to Milford, Takapuna and Devonport.

As well as only planning a short walk today, I took along the Olympus E-500 DSLR – the heaviest of the bunch I have at hand.

The above image was captured in the first section of today’s walk. In post-processing I added vignette, converted to B&W and adjusted the curves a little to assist in giving the image a dark look.

Feet worn and sore, its time for a rest. Until tomorrow.

Damselfly on Leaf

Dragonfly

I spotted this little guy on a leaf when out for a walk in the bush. Initially thinking it was a dragonfly, a quick read up suggests to me it is a damselfly – the difference being (well, one difference) dragonflies when at rest hold their wings perpendicular to their bodies, whilst the damselfly tucks them into their body. – I’m quite open, and happy to be corrected if any of you are entomologists out there?

Shot wise, taken on the Sony Nex and edited in Gimp. Editing, I cropped, adjusted levels, contrast and sharpness.

I got around to developing my 35mm film this morning, so will look to scan and share something from it in the next few days.
