Another of my series of artworks from the event I attended on Sunday. I didn’t capture this artists details, but I loved the work. Not much else to say about it, but its the best (miniature) tree house I have seen!
In post processing I cropped the image for a long thin aspect, desaturated much of the colour and slightly bumped the contrast.
So many great works – I will post a few more and keep the rest in archives to pull out on a rainy day!
As stated yesterday, I will post up a series of images taken from the art show I attended in Devonport on Sunday.
Today’s image, ‘Black, White and Red all Over’ (The artists actual title, not mine- Turtle Donna Sarten) was a beautiful, yet sobering piece that brings about awareness of child abuse and death in the country. As well as the Kiwi I captured on the ground (representing the next generation at risk) the tree also had a large number of Kiwi hanging from the branches (representing those past). Being made of alloy, they chimed in the wind.
Shot on the Sony Nex, I gave it the same treatment in Gimp as yesterday – essentially the lomo filter and resizing.

Today we attended the NZ Sculpture Onshore art even running over two weeks at Fort Takapuna in Devonport. A very windy day, when the rain and wind were not present, it was beautiful weather. Some really cool art works by various artists, I will display some more over the next week. What I failed to do for all but a few was capture the art work name and artist – if any happen to come across my blog, make a comment and I will duly recognise you!
Today’s image, or piece was a massive clothesline spanning several trees with colourful knitted works on it. Shot on the Sony Nex with the kit zoom, I got nice and close and shot wide open. In post processing using Gimp I resized and applied the ‘lomo’ filter.

I finally got around to finishing off my film in the Rollei 35 and developing it today. I had forgotten all about some of the outings I had made with it.
Today’s image was taken whilst out on a walk around the Wynyard Quarter on the Auckland waterfront. Again scanning the B&W film on colour mode, the result is more sepia toned. I like how the old tram track lines in the foreground lead your vision to various parts of the image in the distance.
Weather has been a bit off this weekend so far, but all going well I hope to visit an outdoor art show tomorrow. No doubt I will take along a camera if that eventuates!
I don’t recall where I read it, but near my work is a main road called Wairau Road. Back in the day (the very old days) Wairau river ran through the area. Like a lot of areas in Auckland, we have various forms of reclaimed land – both from the ocean, but also by channelling, controlling or eliminating natural rivers and streams. The main street in Auckland CBD once had a river running down it also. All have largely been lost with building urbanisation and development.
Today’s snap is of the now controlled stream in the Wairau Valley. Flowing out to the ocean, it is essentially a large open drain now days.
Shot on my Sony Nex at 18mm, in post processing via Gimp I converted to black and white and made the image a little more contrasty.
